This one realization hurt a little…

Hey Reader,

This week I’ve been reflecting on something… and honestly, it hit me harder than I expected.

It was one of those moments where you finally see something you’ve been ignoring for, well, for longer than you want to admit.

It started with something simple, too.

You know those moments when you're checking your bank statements, only to find a random subscription quietly charging you every single month?

Yes, I had that exact moment happen this past week.

$12.50/monthly for a meditation app I'd not opened for months.
$14.99/monthly for a streaming service I don't really use.
$29 for a website builder that I hadn’t touched probably since around 2023, and that was (not so quietly) judging me.
$49.99 for an athleticwear membership that I always say I will cancel the next month, but never get to it (I do remember to 'skip' on most months though).

And the thing is that when I registered for these subscriptions, almost always as a free trial, I did it with the best intentions, too. To use them, to share them with friends and family, to learn them. But they simply just stayed 'there'.

Not because I chose them either… But because I never canceled them.

And it got me thinking:

Where else in my life am I quietly “auto-renewing” something I don’t want? What else in our lives is quietly auto-renewing without giving it our permission?

The answer hit me like the truth I know I’d been avoiding:

Being stuck, and most importantly, 'staying stuck' works exactly like that subscription you forgot to cancel.
It renews quietly, automatically, daily really, without you realizing it.

And just like that unused subscription… it costs you something every single time.

But instead of dollars, it costs you:

  • The momentum you could’ve had by now.
  • The clarity you were waiting for.
  • The relationships you didn't get to build.
  • The confidence you didn’t strengthen.
  • The version of you that could’ve already existed by now.

Here’s what people don’t realize:

Inertia, staying exactly where you are, feels free. It feels "safe".
But it is the most expensive thing in the world.

Not in the dramatic, all-at-once, big charge.
But in the tiny, quiet, often invisible renewals.

We don’t feel the cost because it seems silent. Spread out over time. In a way that often feels so small, we think it's harmless.

And so, we continue to say:

  • “Not today.”
  • “I’ll do it when I feel 'more ready', 'more motivated', 'more confident', later.”
  • “I just need to wait until things calm down.”
  • “I’ll start when I have more time or more money.”
  • “What’s one more day? What’s one more week? It can wait.”

Each one is a renewal of the subscription that keeps you stuck.
Each one is a micro-charge that you're not noticing.
Each one is an invisible cost you think doesn't matter.

One day more turns into many more days.

And then one day, you wake up six months, a year, three years later…

…and you realize you’re having the exact same conversation with yourself that you had back then. And you wonder, “How am I still in the same place?”

  • Still waiting for the right moment.
  • Still thinking about doing it.
  • Still planning.
  • Still saying, “When life slows down…” or "When things get better".

And the hardest part?

There were no alerts.
No notifications.
No emails telling you:

“You just renewed your subscription to waiting.”
“You just renewed your subscription to staying exactly where you are.”

The truth is that you only realize this in your own life when you finally stop asking: "Why hasn’t anything changed?"

And instead, start asking yourself: "How long have I been putting this off?"

This was the realization that punched me in the gut this week.

Because I saw all the places where I was also letting things auto-renew in my life:

  • The hesitation.
  • The “I will do it later”.
  • The holding myself (and my opinions) back.
  • The overthinking of every possible outcome.
  • The “I’ll start when I feel ready”.

It’s not that I chose those things. I just didn’t actively cancel them.

This is your CTA to move forward

That's why I want to invite you to consider this now:

What have you been unknowingly subscribed to?

  • Maybe it’s self-doubt.
  • Maybe it’s fear.
  • Maybe it’s playing small.
  • Maybe it’s waiting for the “right time.”
  • Maybe it’s believing you’re not capable yet.

Not because you want those beliefs… but because you haven’t cancelled them.

And if you’re really brave? You will start doing the math.

You will realize that the small, quiet renewals you do daily are much more expensive than any big leap you were afraid to take.

Because the big decisions, the ones that move your life forward, absolutely activate your nervous system.
You feel them in your chest.
Your voice shakes.
Your instinct tells you to retreat.

  • Posting the thing you’ve been scared to share? You feel that.
  • Telling your boss you’re done? You feel that.
  • Investing in a program, a coach, or a new direction? You feel that.

Big moves activate the fear center of your brain, which is why your brain fights them.

But staying the same? That feels like “just a little longer.” “Just one more day.” That feels "safe".

And we don’t notice what it costs us until it’s too late, until years have passed us by and we're exactly where we used to be.

So here’s what I want to invite you to do next: “Show yourself the bill.”

Not only the wasted money. But the wasted time. The lost energy. The missed opportunities. The lost momentum. The low confidence. The lack of compounding progress.

The invisible stuff that actually builds the life you want.

I want you to do this personal finance exercise of checking for your unused subscriptions, but this time I want you to do it with your life instead of your bank statement:

  • The hours you’ve spent thinking about what you want instead of taking one step.
  • The months you’ve been waiting for a feeling that never arrives.
  • The years you’ve said you're “almost ready.”
  • The decisions you keep moving to “next week.”
  • The "I'll do it next Monday".

Add.
It. All.
Up.

If you’ve been delaying launching an idea, or starting the project, or putting your business on social media, or finally taking care of your health, or going back to school, or starting to date again, or changing careers, or moving to your dream city...

I want you to think about the real cost.

The confidence that didn’t grow.
The momentum that didn’t compound.
The skills that you didn’t develop.
The relationships and audience that didn’t find you.
The identity shift that didn’t begin.

That’s the part that hurts the most.

It’s not free vs. expensive.
It’s the invisible costs vs. the visible progress.

Not moving and not deciding aren’t free.
They just come with a different bill.

And here’s the part that absolutely blew my mind this week:

Your brain will ALWAYS stick to the default.

Not because you’re lazy.
Not because you’re unmotivated.
But because of inertia.

Your brain will always prefer to stay where it already is. I will give you a wild example next.

Inertia (aka 'not moving') shapes our results

  • Countries with opt-out organ donation systems (where being an organ donor is the default setting), such as the United Kingdom, Argentina, Austria, Belgium, and France, have over 90% consent rates.
  • Countries with opt-in organ donation systems (where you have to actively 'choose' and register to be an organ donor), such as the United States, Canada, Japan, and Germany, have an average of 15% consent rates.

This is not because some countries are kinder than others. It's not because one group is more generous.

It’s inertia.

People do what’s easiest.
People leave the default setting untouched.

Your brain is no different.

  • If the default is “hesitate,” you hesitate.
  • If the default is “wait until I feel ready,” you wait.
  • If the default is “not now,” it becomes “not now” for years.
  • If the default is "not doing anything", you do anything.

This is why you need to audit your defaults. What are the things you do without even noticing?

This is why if you want to change anything in your life, you need to build new habits. New systems. New rituals. New identity-building actions that make courage your new automatic.

You need to break the pattern of hesitation and finally start moving again.

Because here’s the most empowering truth of all:

You can change your defaults.
You can choose differently.
You can cancel subscriptions that keep renewing automatically.

And if you need help doing that, if you want to interrupt overthinking, calm your nervous system, and get back into action, even when you don’t feel ready, join my upcoming live workshop, From Stuck to Started: How to Take Action When You Don’t Feel Ready Yet.

But for today… just pick one subscription to cancel.
One tiny action to take differently.

What I’m Loving Right Now”

A mantra I’m using this week:
“I don’t wait for clarity, I create it.”

A reminder someone needs today:
You are not behind. You’re just one decision away from a new direction.

A tiny action to try today:
Open the thing you’ve been avoiding, the doc, the email, the message, the project.
Opening counts. Start somewhere.

P.S.: If you're ready to use fear as fuel and as an invitation to step into growth, instead of a sign to stop, this episode shows you how to stop letting fear hold you back and how to transform your anxiety into action and growth. Inspiration comes from everywhere

Hey Reader, In the past 3-4 years, I have watched more real crime and serial killers documentaries than ever before in my life. The reason? Simple. My boyfriend absolutely looooovessssss them! Let's say that his Netflix home page's results are pretty different from mine, LOL. Honestly, when we started dating, I wasn't sure if we could ever watch TV together. I'm basically the opposite: a fantasy genre lover (think Harry Potter, The Lord of the Rings, The Hunger Games, The Hidden Legacy, kind...

Resistance isn't the enemy

Hey Reader, This past week, I started going to the gym and doing some strength-training workouts again after taking a break for most of October to focus solely on running. And though this may sound weird, I had honestly missed being in a gym environment. The ironic thing is that as soon as I registered to go to the gym, I felt that same resistance that always appears when I know I'm about to do something hard or uncomfortable, especially after not doing it for a couple of weeks. Once I got...
